THE CHALLENGE: hydrogeological risk mitigation.
In February 2019, a landslide in Ponte Alto blocked the Valsugana SS47, a key roadway connecting Valsugana and the Adige Valley. The event necessitated immediate action to restore the road system and ensure the safety of road users.
THE SOLUTION: Ledrosteelbox gabions for slope consolidation.
To deal with the emergency and ensure slope stability, the Province of Trento Roads Service chose an advanced naturalistic engineering system, based on the use of Ledrosteelbox gabions. These devices, made of Electrowelded mesh and CE certified for structural use, were tested at DICAM in Trent and used as a contrasting element for anchor rods connected to the ground.
In detail, the system provided:
- The installation of Ledrosteelbox gabions With structural containment function;
- The integration of anchor rods that work in tension in operation;
- The application of a distribution plate (header) for the distribution of tensile forces on the gabions;
The results: safety, durability and efficiency
Thanks to the adoption of advanced construction solutions and the use of high-performance materials, the intervention ensured:
- The safe reopening of SS47 in a timely manner;
- Slope stabilization with a strong and durable system;
- The integration of naturalistic engineering techniques to minimize environmental impact.
This intervention is further confirmation of the versatility and reliability of Ledrosteelbox gabions in highly critical geotechnical contexts.
