Where Does the Wire in Our Gabions Come From? Tecnofil and Quality Assurance
In the field of geotechnical and structural works, the quality of the electrowelded mesh gabion wire represents a crucial element in ensuring the durability and performance of the works over time. The regulatory compliance of a gabion depends not only on the CE marking of the finished product, but also by the traceability and reliability of the galvanized wire production chain.
Metallurgica Ledrense, in the production of its CE-marked electrowelded mesh gabions, has always paid the utmost attention to the selection of raw material suppliers. This is why the collaboration with Tecnofil was established, one of the most important wire drawing and galvanizing mills in Europe, whose 30 years of experience in the production of zinc-aluminum alloy galvanized wire and membership in the Alfa Acciai Group represent concrete guarantees of manufacturing excellence.
In this article, Gianluca Periccioli, general manager of Tecnofil, presents the reality of a company where each wire tells a different story: that of the structural gabions that protect slopes and consolidate soils, but also that of the many industrial, agricultural and geotechnical applications that make this material an invisible protagonist of our daily lives. Periccioli delves into the drawing and galvanizing processes., environmental certifications, and the customized approach that characterizes an entirely made-to-order production.
Tecnofil: 30 Years of Excellence in the Production of Metal Wire and Galvanizing
Tecnofil was established in 1994 and since its inception has developed and consolidated its core business in the production of wire and the process of galvanizing and drawing and in particular in the production of low and medium carbon wire. Since 2016, it has been producing in addition to the drawn and galvanized wire also aluminum zinc alloy galvanized wire. Our production capacity exceeds 100,000 tons of wire per year.
Thus, we have been operating in the wire manufacturing industry since 1994, and since 2016 we have become part of the Alfa Acciai Group, a leader European steel producer, becoming among the most important drawing and galvanizing mills in Europe, in the production of wire, galvanized, zinc-aluminum, bright, baked, re-drawn, skinpassed wire, with multiple applications in industrial, construction, agricultural, geotechnical, wine, hardware, and household goods.
Our slogan now known and which is distinguishing us is " everyday life all in a thread ", this is because research commissioned from a well-known trend and market analysis company showed that more than 54 different applications/objects can be produced with the steel wire coming out of Tecnofil and that statistically at least 7 times in a day, a person comes into contact with a product potentially made with the drawn, galvanized or zinc-aluminum alloyed steel wire.
Tecnofil uses only and exclusively steel produced from scrap from Alfa Acciai of Brescia. The steel from which our wire is made is al 99 % recycled and melted in electric furnaces. Excess heat from the melting furnaces is piped into the city's district heating plant, an example of energy recovery.
100% of our wire production is made to order, this is because 100% of our product is custom , each customer has different specifications from the other starting from the mechanical, dimensional characteristics of packaging and storage in the customer's final warehouse.
One thing that sets us apart in terms of our approach to the customer and the market is the fact that we take care of product development together with the customer, providing our corporate resources in product engineering, quality and commercial; the latter point very important because with our knowledge of international trends, we work with clients who request it to develop their end market.
We have recently implemented the certification referring to the carbon footprint by obtaining last July the Carbon Foot Print of product, the only one in our market in Europe to obtain it.
One important thing that concerns our company is the turn over of staff that is very low and exclusively due to replacement of retiring employees (1.2 average of the last 8 years) and the very low average age (42 years). We invest more than 0.2 % of annual turnover in training on hard and soft skills.
A Partnership for Certified Quality Gabions.
Tecnofil's presentation highlights how the quality of electrowelded mesh gabions also depends on the excellence of the production chain. For Metallurgica Ledrense, collaborating with Tecnofil means ensuring that every component of our certified gabions for geotechnical works comes from a controlled, traceable and state-of-the-art supply chain. This translates into design safety and structural durability for engineers and designers who choose us, contributing to the realization of consolidation and containment works reliable and sustainable in the long run.
